Sitagliptin phosphate as a single drug treatment in patients with type II diabetes can significantly reduce the level of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c). It is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, which can improve the human body's ability to reduce high blood glucose level. Sitagliptin was developed by Merck & Co. and approved for medical use in the United States in 2006.
