Mildronate (CAS: 76144-81-5) is an anti-ischemic drug, used to control myocardial ischemia, a medical condition which occurs when the blood flow is blocked, stopping thus the oxygen supply to the heart. The damage produced to the heart muscle happens gradually, and it manifests through reduced heartbeats that could lead to future heart attacks. Mildronate is a novel cardioprotective agent. Mildronate acts on mitochondria at the cellular level to improve myocardial energy metabolism.
