Tosylmethyl Isocyanide is used as a synthetic reagent in the preparation of variety or biologically active heterocycles such as pyrroles and imidazoles. As isonitrile components, used in stereoselective Passerini reactions containing carbohydrate-derived aldehydes.
Versatile synthon in organic chemistry, especially in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds.
Tosylmethyl Isocyanide contains both sulfonyl and isocyanide groups. Unlike many isocyanides, it is odorless. It is prepared by dehydration of the related formamide derivative. It is used in the Van Leusen reaction which is used to convert aldehydes to nitriles or in the preparation of oxazoles and imidazoles.
