80-18-2 - Synthetic Procedure
(1) Add Benzenesulfonyl Chloride (CAS: 98-09-9) and Methanol into 500L reactor, and then drop sodium hydroxide solution when the temperature drops below 10 degrees. After the drip is finished, the tower rises to room temperature and reacts for 4 hours.
(2) Wash to remove salt and collect the underlying organic phase.
(3) Add the product of the above step to 500L reactor and add methanol and sodium hydroxide solution for 8 hours at room temperature.
(4) Repeat (2)
(5) The product is purified after three times of refining.

Methyl Benzenesulfonate (CAS: 80-18-2) is used as a raw material for the dye and pharmaceutical industries, used as an alkylating agent in organic synthesis for the production of some synthetic dye. It can also be used for the manufacturing the thin-cation exchanger film. Methyl benzenesulfonate is the effective methylating reagent of synthetic multiple organic intermediate.

Methyl Benzenesulfonate, Extremely toxic! Its vapor irritates eyes, mucous membranes and skin, can cause sensitization and dermatitis, and direct contact is strictly prohibited.
