Malonyl Chloride is a trifluoroacetic acid derivative that is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It has been shown to be a ligand for chelate metal complexes and to react with amines to form amides. It also reacts with alcohols to form esters, and with carboxylic acids to form anhydrides or esters. Malonyl chloride is one of the most commonly used reagents in chemical synthesis due to its functional groups and its low cost.
Intermediates of various sulfa drugs, such as sulfathiazole, sulfaisoxazole, sulfamethisoxazole, sulfabenzopyrazole, sulfadioxidine, etc. It is also an intermediate of dyes.
