Phenethyl Isocyanate (CAS: 1943-82-4) is an isocyanate having a 2-phenylethyl group attached to the nitrogen.
Phenethyl Isocyanate is mainly used as a key intermediate for the synthesis of glimepiride, a new hypoglycemic drug. glimepiride is a new generation of sulfonylcystatin drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Phenethyl Isocyanate is also a useful reagent in the synthesis of novel sulfonamides derivatives with antimicrobial activities.
Phenethyl Isocyanate has a pungent odor.
