FAQ:

Application:

Methyl Methanesulfonate (MMS) (CAS: 66-27-3) is an alkylating agent and a carcinogen. Methyl Methanesulfonate is a DNA adduct that adds methyl groups to Dan at 7-guanine, 3-guanine and 3-adenine. Methyl Methanesulfonate is used as a reagent in the synthesis of 2-Methyllamotrigine (M315350); an impurity of Lamotrigine (L173250) which is an anticonvulsant that inhibits glutamate release, possible through inhibition of sodium, potassium and calcium currents. Also used in treatment of bipolar depression.
