Gabapentin-Lactam (CAS: 64744-50-9) is a key intermediate of Gabapentin (CAS: 60142-96-3). Gabapentin is an anti-epileptic drug, also called an anticonvulsant. It affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain. Gabapentin is also used to treat neuropathic pain (nerve pain) caused by herpes virus or shingles (herpes zoster) in adults. Gabapentin is structurally similar to GABA (γ-aminobutyric acid). Gabapentin received final approval for marketing in the USA on 30 December 1993.
