5-Chloro-1-Methyl-4-Nitroimidazole (CAS: 4897-25-0) is an imidazole derivative. 5-Chloro-1-methyl-4-nitroimidazole is an intermediate in Azathioprine (CAS: 446-86-6) synthesis, also present in the end product. Cross reactivity is possible with imidazoles tioconazole, and econazole. 5-Chloro-1-methyl-4-nitroimidazole can be condensed with 6- Mercaptopurine (CAS: 50-44-2) to obtain Azathioprine. Azathioprine is an immunosuppressant which is commonly used in organ transplantation, autoimmune disease or Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). It is also used in multiple sclerosis, autoimmune hepatitis and restrictive lung disease. It's also active as disease modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD).
