It is a new orally active selective acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. Acotiamide monohydrochloride trihydrate enhances acetylcholine released by enteric neurons through muscarinic receptor antagonism and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition, thereby enhancing gastric emptying and gastric accommodation.
