Azelastine HCl is an Histamine H1 Receptor (H1-receptor) antagonist, with antiallergic effects related to histamine antagonism, and further antiallergic and antiinflammatory effects unrelated to H1-receptor binding. Azelastine hydrochloride is an orally effective antihistamine useful in the treatment of asthma and nasal allergy. It appears to inhibit release of histamine, in addition to antagonizing its action.
