Trizma Acetate (CAS: 6850-28-8) is frequently used in the preparation of TAE (Tris-Acetate-EDTA) buffer, which is used as a running buffer and in agarose gels. Tris Acetate-EDTA buffer is used for DNA agarose gel electrophoresis but is also used for non-denaturing RNA agarose gel electrophoresis. Trizma Acetate is used in the formulation of buffer solutions in the pH range between 7.5 and 8.5. Tris buffer solutions are widely used in cell and molecular biology for processes such as protein and nucleic acid extraction and purification. Trizma Acetate based buffers are also in column chromatography and in gel electrophoresis. Trizma Acetate is used to make Tris acetic acid buffers that are used as diluents for various assays and as an electrophoresis running buffers.
