112811-59-3 - Application:

Gatifloxacin (CAS: 112811-59-3) is an antibiotic of the fourth-generation fluoroquinolone family, that like other members of that family, inhibits the bacterial enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV.
Gatifloxacin is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
This medication belongs to a class of drugs called quinolone antibiotics.
This antibiotic only treats bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (e.g., common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness .
Gatifloxacin is a novel orally-active fluoroquinolone antibiotic with a potent and broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive (S.pneumonia, S.aureus) and gram-negative bacteria. It shows good activity against strains resistant to established antituberculosis agents. Gatifloxacin was marketed for the treatment of respiratory tract and urinary infections, particularly the treatment of certain community-acquired infections (such as bronchitis, pneumonia and common sexually-transmitted diseases). Comparative studies with ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin and sparfloxacin against fluoroquinolone-resistant organisms indicated a better or equivalent effectiveness with less phototoxic adverse effects.

112811-59-3 - Medical Uses:

Gatifloxacin sold under the brand names Gatiflo, Tequin and Zymar, is an antibiotic of the fourth-generation fluoroquinolone family,[1] that like other members of that family, inhibits the bacterial enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. Bristol-Myers Squibb introduced Gatifloxacin in 1999 under the proprietary name Tequin for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, having licensed the medication from Kyorin Pharmaceutical Company of Japan. Allergan produces it in eye-drop formulation under the names Zymar and Zymaxid. In many countries, gatifloxacin is also available as tablets and in various aqueous solutions for intravenous therapy.

112811-59-3 - Function:

1 Antibacterial spectrum: In addition to the gram negative bacteria and gram positive bacteria have a strong antibacterial activity, the anaerobic bacteria, bacteria, mycoplasma, chlamydia and Mycobacterium, also have a good antibacterial effect.
2 Blood drug concentration is high, widely distributed in the body, with a long half-life, absolute bioavailability, strong bactericidal power.
3 Anti infection index is the highest in the quinolones have been listed
4 Stable chemical properties, small toxic side effect, not easy to produce drug resistance.

112811-59-3 - Ophthalmic Solution:

Gatifloxacin is currently available in the US and Canada only as an ophthalmic solution. In China it is sold in tablet as well as in eye drop formulations.Ophthalmic anti-infectives are generally well tolerated. The concentration of the drug observed following oral administration of 400 mg gatifloxacin systemically is approximately 800 times higher than that of the 0.5% Gatifloxacin eye drop. Given as an eye drop, Gatifloxacin Ophthalmic Solution 0.3% & 0.5% cause very low systemic exposures. Therefore, the systemic exposures resulting from the gatifloxacin ophthalmic solution are not likely to pose any risk for systemic toxicities.
